Video on Flickr
I really love Flickr. I don’t use it as much as I’d like to, but it is a website that I don’t think I’ll ever leave, it’s always going to be part of my life, and part of my blog. This is mainly because it’s such a good service, I mean I don’t know of a better service for sharing photos with the world, Flickr is just the best one out there.
So, like a month or two ago, they introduced Flickr video. My initial reaction to this was what have they done? People will be uploading no end of crap, and probably treat Flickr like some kind of YouTube site - but more attractive with more mature members. But you know, as time has moved on, I’ve changed my mind on Flickr video. I think is a totally brilliant idea, even if I don’t have a camera that can pump out the high quality video that you can upload.
I think the decision taken to limit videos to 90 seconds wasn’t really needed in theory, I haven’t seen any excessively long videos that aren’t to the standard of normal Flickr photos, so it seems to be working okay. Of course, I hadn’t even tried out the new uploader for video, and was pleasantly surprised with the whole process - I really do think that it’s better than the uploader on YouTube, and seeing as this is nothing like YouTube, I think they did a completely brilliant job.

Leave a commentFlickr Video is fantastic for it’s convenience, but I tend to upload absolute crap videos there just to share with my friends and family, rather than anything decent (if I had any…)
If I ever do get around to taking any decent video, I’ll almost certainly put it on Vimeo. If Flickr was to provide HD video, however (irrespective of the 90-second limit) I’d without question put it on Flickr… let’s hope George reads this!
