Great job guys - you just agreed to the most annoying change to the way large companies use the Internet ever, all presumably because of the fact that you want more money. I’m not buying this “we’re running out of domains fast” bullshit, because why the fuck would you make the price of creating a new TLD so high if that was the case? How the fuck does that solve the problem? Yes, great, we’re running out of domains, let’s only allow really large companies that can afford it to buy their own top level domains, great. Problem will be solved in no time.

That will of course solve the problem, large companies are the only thing that is important on the internet, yeah, I see your angle. ICANN have blatantly rushed into this decision and taken it so lightly that they don’t even realise what they’ve done. Yeah, let’s all piss off the whole internet by making irrational decisions that have no point to them, I love that amazing idea.

Call it a harsh one, but my opinion is that ICANN love the idea of getting lots of large companies interested and paying them thousands of pounds for small annoying presence on the internet. I love domain hacks, ya know, like del.icio.us, but those sorts of intuitive domains will be hyped down in the wake of the lazy company’s custom TLD system, only available to the highest bidder.

I never cared for the decisions of ICANN - .mobi, .name, the massive list of retarded recently introduced TLDs is stupid. Why not accept the fact that the internet is getting bigger - and if companies want domains that have been registered why not try contacting the little guy that owns the domain - yes, that involves “talking” to someone about it.
